Electricity rocks as far as skin care is concerned and we use plenty of it at SkinSense. The latest electrical star on our menu is micro-current so I thought it might be useful to blog about its benefits and how it blends with Botox.
Dr.Pugliese, skin physiologist and cosmetic chemist, maintains that micro-current creates lots of activity on a deep dermal level where all the serious aging starts. It stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, increases the viscous material these proteins sit in, (glycosaminoglycans or GAG's), and encourages cellular activity by boosting ATP(adenosine triphosphate). Benefits? Smoother calmer, tighter more youthful skin - the kind we took for granted in our teens and early twenties. Incidentally, we have found micro-current works really well on rosacea too, which is great news. Rosacea is a hard condition to treat.
Microcurrent operates on a sub-sensory level which allows the electrodes to glide over the skin with little discomfort. A series of six weekly treatments is recommended at first to start re-educating the muscles and them follow-up can be done as needed. We recommend that clients wait two weeks after receiving Botox before having micro-current to avoid any product transference.
Botox does not work directly on the muscles. It binds to the neurotransmitters preventing them from signaling muscle contraction. Used over time however, Botox can cause atrophy - slackening - and this is where microcurrent can be really helpful.
Botox helps to soften expression lines and micro-current can restore fullness and tone to the skin. It is a perfect partnership that can loosen gravity's grip.
