Eight Scary Skincare Habits to Avoid this Halloween and forever!
Never pop pimples. As tempting as this may be at times, you generally end up pushing the infection deeper into the skin and causing unnecessary redness and trauma to the tissue. The pimple takes much longer to heal and can sometimes scar.
Never try doing a professional grade chemical peel at home. Results can be disastrous! Although they are available online they are best applied by an aesthetician or dermatologist to avoid damage and pigmentation.
Don’t over cleanse and watch the suds!! If a cleanser leaves you squeaky clean it generally means it has left your skin dry and stripped of natural oils too. As much as bubbles can be fun they are not good for the skin’s acid mantle.
Don’t ‘use up’ old products and samples. Check expiry dates on all your products and use everything within the time recommended. If there is no expiry date on the packaging mark the item yourself when you purchase it. Out of date products break down and become less effective as well as posing the risk of irritation. Samples because of their size also have a shorter shelf life.
Never ignore a new or changing mole. Get a full body mole check at last once a year and always revisit your doctor if something new pops up in the meantime.
Don’t smoke. With its attendant mouth motions smoking can create indelible lines where you don’t want them – on the upper lip! Nicotine restricts blood flow and oxygen from reaching the skin depriving the tissues of essential nutrients and it also leaches vitamin C from the body affecting skin tone, elasticity and immunity. Not to mention it causes cancer!! One very bad habit indeed.
Never go to bed with makeup on. This Halloween there will probably be many scary makeup parties on Zoom. Going to sleep with any daily residue on your skin welcomes morning breakouts and ages the skin. Party cosmetics can be particularly clogging and irritating. Not to mention they really mess up the pillowcase. Dream clean!!
Don’t overload on products. I know – it is so tempting these days to try everything you read about and see your friends using. But overusing even the best quality products can often negate the benefits and reduce positive results. Have your aesthetician design a home care regime for you that uses all the ingredients over a weekly and monthly period to best advantage.
Happy Halloween!!
